Penelope nodded nervously in response before snuggling closer into his embrace. “I am so glad you kissed me that day,” she admitted into his chest. “If I am honest.. I had feelings for you before that point, but I had been under the impression that once again, I had fallen for someone that would never return it. You became the most important person to me over the course of our friendship, and you became even more so when you became my husband.”

Penelope couldn’t help but giggle once more at his response and tease him back. “Oh of course, although I was not your wife when we first.. misbehaved. Although it did lead to us being this happy, so I have no complaints.” She looked up at him as he turned her around and held her close. “You are my home too, Michael. If I am honest, I believe you were my home long before you kissed me that first time.”

that was truly the most remarkable thing about penelope, michael realized. she knew his past. knew he had been a rake, knew he had loved francesca, and she still trusted him. she loved him without any hesitation or doubts. she was truly so good and wonderful, he wanted to be every bit the man she saw.❝that means everything to me.❞

Penelope smiled up at him before she leaned up to kiss him. She poured every bit of her love into her kiss, wanting to reassure him. When she finally had to break away to breathe, she smiled lovingly up at him. “I am glad, because you mean everything to me. I could not have asked for a better husband.”

michael smiled a little ❝perhaps we were always meant to find one another. so we would not have to go through life alone.❞ he wanted to say they had been meant to marry, but that felt like he was giving himself away. ❝whatever is the reason, i am very happy with how things turned out.❞ michael wanted to say so much, but he couldn’t find the words. sadly he was used to spending time around a women he was in love with. 

There was something in the tone of his voice that gave her pause, but she smiled at him all the same. “I am very happy with how my life has turned out as well. I hope that you know that.” Even with knowing that he was still in love with Francesca, she knew that he would be a good and honorable husband. And while her love for him might remain unrequited, she would still spend the rest of her life with him, which was a good thing. Besides, if anyone was used to unrequited love, it was her.

michael smirked at her plea ❝now that is a very dangerous command, mrs sterling❞ his fingers slowly creeping up her leg under her dress ❝but who am i to argue with a lady?❞ he slowly lowered her onto the couch, and continued to kiss her neck all over. he loved that she was becoming more comfortable in asking for what she wanted. he loved that she was getting a bit more sure of herself, even in small doses.     

She let out a small moan as she felt his fingers creeping up her leg towards where she needed him most. As he lowered her onto the couch, her arms went around his shoulders, needing him closer to her. “It seems I’ve gotten addicted to the danger around you, Mister Sterling,” she teased back as he continued to kiss her neck.
